Store of the Future — Retail UX Prototype
An exploration of what a physical-retail-meets-AI storefront looks like — checkout-free, inventory-aware, conversational. A working prototype, not a product.
What I Was Exploring
What does a store look like when the storefront is an AI and the inventory talks back to it? Not a chatbot. A prototype of the whole shopping flow — discovery, fit, checkout, after-sales — built as if the AI was the cashier, the floor associate, and the buyer’s memory.
The Build
- Next.js + Tailwind for the storefront
- A simulated inventory feed wired to a conversational layer
- “Try this on” interactions handled inline rather than punting to a separate flow
- Checkout that completes without a typed-in card
What I Learned
Most of the value in “AI-native retail” is in the between — the moments traditional UX hides under a button. Removing the button is the product. I’ll come back to this when the underlying model stack catches up with the interaction patterns I prototyped.
